2/ ATO has been building this system for years, and can cross-match almost every piece of financial data nowadays. I pity the fools who think they can dodge the Taxman, because his spies now work 24/7, and at the speed of light.

4/ This is the biggest issue. Selling personal data that they have forcibly harvested would be a huge breach of trust. If it were to ever happen, I could see the High Court getting really busy.
As for tracking everything you do, for most people you only need to go as far as Bookface or any other social networking site. I stay clear of those for a good reason.
I get that people like their privacy, and for information to remain private. Unfortunately, the Governments of today are obsessed with monetary penaltiese, and are addicted to those proceeds. It has now come to the point where they are inventing flimsy reasons to penalise, in order to cash in on what is basically a nothing.
