Re true online voting, there was an interesting interview in the midday news, where the person running the senate count was saying how it was currently done, and the problems encountered.
First preference counts are done manually and then the rest of the ballot is scanned and done by computer ( which i didnt know ).
She constantly referred to how a manual cross check was still required, both on data entry and result tallies, as there are human errors involved, and more pertinently, she knew that software wasnt perfect and there could always be bugs in how different datasets could be processed.
At least one person seems to understand some of the realities.
