Stargazer at Garie Beach

I thought I would share one of my latest shots.

Decided to head out early on Saturday morning to Garie Beach in the Royal National Park. I hardly slept that night because I was looking forward to using a new 10 stop filter that I bought mid week on my 70-200mm lens. Anyway...

With the forecast looking like it would be very windy I didn't let that phase me. Left home at 4:20am. I got to Garie Beach a little after 5:30am, with the just past full moon setting in the west but still high up in the sky. It was casting shadows on the ground. I could see the glow of the dawn approaching in the north east. The only people on the beach were a few fishermen. It was so calm, not even the slightest of breezes.

I decided to set up on the rocks in the hope that I would catch some reflections of the eventual sunrise in the mirror like rock pools. While waiting for the sunrise, I couldn't resist the temptation for a token astro selfie.

It is not your usual "arching across the sky milky way" shot. But the stars of Orion, Taurus and Canis Major looked so bright against the inky blue sky. The shot ended up on Explore in Flickr yesterday, only my second photo to get in there. So I am pretty stoked about that!

Feedback appreciated. Thanks for looking!
