Hi Steve,
I am not sure what equipment you have so it's hard to be specific. Just be aware that the entire optical system is only as good as the weakest component in it and you usually get what you pay for.
In other words I wouldn't be buying cheap filters for use with Pentax XW or Televue eyepieces and an SDM dob, as they will then only perform to the level of the cheap filter. If on the other hand you are using budget eyepieces in a smaller cheaper telescope, it will not hurt to use cheap filters.
