Do you know the IP address of your observatory machine? If you can, set it up as a static IP address, rather than DHCP/dynamic.

If you do, you can type that into TeamViewer and it'll go directly to your machine.

What you also need to do is to go into TeamViewer and ensure that it has Allow Incoming LAN Connections enabled in one of the screens. I don't have it front of me so I can't check for you.

If you don't, then, when you connect to your machine's TeamViewer ID, you'll be using your Internet bandwidth, rather than your local LAN.
