we are about to get our first cold snap after some light rain so i will be out shooting some in the next week or so

We have had the cooler weather for about 3~4weeks now, after a very long, dry and warm, Summer and Autumn. So I do appreciate the anticipation of being able to finally get out into the woods and paddocks hunting. This morning was a chilly 4deg :-)

What fascinating is why it shines/glows in the 1st place, is it trying to attract something, bugs maybe

The phosphorescence seems to be about getting bugs and snails to eat it, and having them expel the spoors elsewhere. To get the glow-in-the-dark fungi in pristine condition is the challenge, because after the first decent night of lighting up, they start to get eaten. Moths to a candle effect.
These are the same fungi as in the glowing picture, and any of them would have made a nice night shot. Had I been less lazy.
The beauty of them is that they a large and can be up to 30+cm across, where some others are tiny little things.
