Had two scopes out last Sunday night. The 8 inch Newt for Mars and Saturn and a 4 inch refractor for a wide field shot of the Moon and Jupiter conjunction. Prime focus at 500mm f5 framed the moon and Jupiter nicely but obviously showed very little detail on Jupiter. I ended up using the prime focus shot as a guide to register two eyepiece projection shots of the moon and Jupiter to enhance the detail.
I placed a 6mm eyepiece into the optical chain of the Saxon 4 inch achromat and took a 30 second video grab of Jupiter and 5 separate 30 second video frames of the moon at the same focal length.
Import into Pipp, stack in AutoStakkert, sharpen in Registax and combine all images in Photoshop.
The final image is a true representation of the scale and distance between the two heavenly bodies, maintaining detail in both.
