I quickly used the plate solver script in PI to analyse one of the linear images used to construct the final colour image. These are the numbers it returned, which seem about right according to my printed star atlas.

Thank muchly, Murray. I can see where it is now. It amazes me how much shots of the Vela SNR can differ one to the next, yet still be the Vela SNR.
