I've tried showing the stars to my wife many many times with the same result each time: "That's nice darling but really they're all just little white dots in the sky aren't they?"
After I got into spectroscopy I thought that might interest her a bit more (although I skipped the heavy stuff re physics while discussing it with her). Her response: "Great, you've moved from little white dots to rainbows with black lines."
Sometimes you just can't win.
