Well it wasn't my better half but a long term friend....
The preamble doesn't matter but the conversation led to my friend saying
"I don't trust science". Seeing her mobile phone on the table in front of us I picked it up and said "but you know it works, here's the evidence". I went on to mention GPS etc etc.
Completely seriously my friend replied "But that's technology".
At that point I gave up.
