They're charging a LOT more than the actual cost of consumables - you can buy filament rolls for around $40 - $50 / kg (that's 4 to 5
CENTS per gram), but I assume the surplus covers cost of maintenance etc.
For anyone in the Brisbane area - "The Edge" at State Library of Queensland (South Bank Cultural Precinct) has a bunch of 3D printers that you can book on-line and access for free after doing their induction program. They only charge $0.15 per gram on your printed objects. (They also have a laser cutter for when you want to make flat objects cut from acrylic sheet or similar.)
