I have stopped getting anything delivered to my home address; instead, I have a free Australia Post "24/7 Parcel Locker" account.

The Post Office nearest my work has a bank of these Parcel Lockers, so it is very convenient for me. They are accessible 24-hours, so I can stop by on my way home from work. (Ever noticed how often you find the "We could not deliver" card in your mail box when you get home on a Friday evening, so you can't get your hands on your new toy until Monday?!)

You get a text message as soon as it arrives, and there is (almost) no risk of it being delivered to the wrong address, or the inevitable "No-one was home when we called" card when you stayed home all day just to collect it.

I've got my parcel locker stored as my default eBay / PayPal delivery address. The same Parcel Locker address even works for packages that have to be signed for, but you have to go into the Post Office to sign for it and collect - but since you get a text message as soon as it arrives at the Post Office, you've got a chance of collecting it that day. I've only encountered a very small number of e-retailers who won't ship to a Parcel Locker address.

Of course, it still takes Australia Post an age to deliver your parcel from the minute it's in their hands to the locker, but then it's in my hands the same day.
