Sunspot 2529 – 15th April 2016, Brisbane

The astronomers curse struck again. This morning I woke to clear blue skies so decided to set up the telescope to record Sunspot 2529. After double checking that the full aperture Baader Astro Solar Film filter was firmly attached to the front of the telescope, I glanced around and saw a sea of clouds rolling in from the SE. I just had time to launch Firecapture and record an AVI sequence of 5,000 frames when the first tendrils of cloud covered the solar disc. As I write this, the rain has arrived…

I was lucky though; within those 5,000 frames Autostakkert2! managed to find some gold dust, the best 500 frames. Registax 6 then provided the Wavelets function to make the detail pop out on the display.

I have included an image of Jupiter from a previous evening’s imaging session to show the scale of AR2529.

Hardware:
Tak Mewlon 180, TeleVue x2.0 Powermate, ASI174MM CMOS Camera, Baader Astro solar film (photo version).

Software:
FireCapture camera control application, Autostakkert2! aligning & stacking application and Registax6 Wavelets.
