yes it has been a saga starting with the early mistakes on the satellite data analysis, through the era of " it must be....... (fill in this week's alternative theory)" and ending up with the current silence (the books are still for sale though).
However, I think that UAH is a good reference in this sort of discussion, because all of the red herring arguments such as "the thermometer sites are in the wrong place", "the data has been manipulated to hide the truth" etc. etc. etc. have the wind taken out of them. If the Christy and Spencer satellite data show such a monstrous effect, it has to be accepted as real in other databases as well.
