You leave something like that out there for long enough someone will eventually steal it, it's as simple as that. I mean with 350,000 people visiting the site each year, they expect not one of them will cease [i mean seize
] the opportunity!? They obviously haven't learnt their lesson after the first binoscope was stolen.
Anyway, they were clearly coin operated scopes so they've probably more than broken even if really that many people go up there and even just 1% of them use it. And that's probably why they did not bother to make more effort to better secure them.
