Australia's population set to officially hit 24 million on Tuesday at 12:51am

In an article in today's Sydney Morning Herald, Matt Wade reports that
Australia's population is set to hit 24 million this coming Tuesday.

I can still clearly remember at school in the late 1960's when we were taught
the population of Australia is 12 million, half of what it is today.
