Before spending extra $, try sighting objects during the day with some distant object (mountain, tower etc) and perhaps doing some adjustments to better align the dot finder with the telescope.
Also, use your lowest power eyepiece when initially finding objects. I am not sure what eyepieces that you have, but the higher number (For example 20mm or 25mm) gives the lowest power.
