We are newbies who live in the Barossa Valley & I'm looking for a " Begineers Package " for my 8YO Boy - Who BTW is looking to build a time machine & wants to 'select' a star system to visit 1st

As I have almost 40 years experience with hardware & software I would prefer a telescope to PC / Linux interface so I can process the images RAW from the scope with ??? software.
Anyone got any 2nd hand gear or recommendations for us ???
