Richard. With the type of modification you are proposing, an Astronomik clip-in UV/IR cut filter is a good idea as it blocks wavelengths that do not focus, at either end of the spectrum, particularly if you are using a refractor with the camera. It will also reduce the accumulation of dust on the sensor face. Did the camera shop say whether they will refit the low pass filter after removing the ir cut?
