We are senders of large-ish amounts of stock with our business. At the moment we use AusPost.
Since February, when they brought in this laser scanning tech that they ripped from their acquisition of Startrack Express, the amount of delayed and missing parcels has rocketed.
We have had parcels going from Tuggerah (2259) to Manly (2095) taking over a week, when they should (and were) overnight. It is a blight on their history, when a parcel can be delivered in Perth quicker.
To add insult to this, our contract parcel (per kilo) rates went up by an average of 30% for this year, across the board.
Our new contract is due any time, and you can bet that they will be getting a fight this time around.
My understanding is that Customs won't hold an item for more than 5 days without advising you. Usually it is because they need to classify something that is not self-explanatory by the declaration. Even sea containers that are held for xray must be released after the 5th day.
