What may work is doing a white balance in PI but selecting as much as possible that doesn't contain the globular cluster, that could be what is throwing that out. My colour calibration is pretty terrible mind you so feel free to disregard what I have to say

Thanks Mike. It seems to work better on some pics than others. Still to investigate if dithering is the cause. I travelled light with what I knew worked and I tested everything plugged in the living room before hand. Cut the trip in two 7h halves, slept in Armidale. Rig behaved and all went well. The only thing I'd advise is to pack a tarp. Sun showers in QLD are brief but fierce.
