The only plus I have seen of late is the ability to add a few things to the standard menu. A sprinkling of Jalapeno slices certainly lifts a cheeseburger to a less mundane level. That said, think they have gone downhill in recent years, most notably since the "Made when you order" thing came in.
First up, does anyone believe that they cook your quarter pounder from scratch when you ask for it?
Secondly, it introduced "Waiting" to the concept, in stores built around a decades old "stack em high, move em quick" model, I.E. not designed for people to be standing around the counter waiting.
Finally, they obviously had to find a way to cook things a little quicker and around that time I first noticed that the meat patties just barely count as cooked! They are never hot, never taste well cooked, actually have a texture more like they have been boiled than done on a hotplate and are always dead bland so as not to offend the mass market! (Though that is not new)
And if I want to "build my own" I will go to a proper chippie where none of the above applies.
I don't seem to be coming across as a fan, I guess I am not.
