I just posted the same question in another thread, before reading this one.
Clearly the appearance in the eyepiece will vary depending on the optical system you have and whether or not you're viewing straight through or with a diagonal. It would be good in a photographic forum to have all images with the same orientation for easy comparison. I've modelled my posted images on the format used on the ALPO site

Not sure if this is an official universal standard or just northerncentric chauvinism. We do know that they're all upside down up there and see their planets cross the sky from left to right.
At least adopting this standard would make this forum more useful to amateurs worldwide, most of whom live in the northern hemisphere. Does that sound like a cultural cringe?
