I don't know how valid this argument is but a common response is if you downsize the A7r to 12mp noise levels are quite comparable to the A7s.
A7Rii is supposed to be at least one stop better in high ISO performance so then if you downsize 42.4mp to 12mp then the noise difference may be very little one way or the other.
