Hi Jay, great first shot. Taking pics of the planets with a dslr is not easy, most use a video type camera system and stack the best frames.
Planets look great in the eyepiece but are very small in a dslr image so the first thing to do, is to use a 2x barlow to double the size. Set your camera to live view or use mirror lock to reduce vibrations, use a remote shutter release and try and keep the iso low. Try different shutter speeds to get the exposure right. All you need then is a clear, still night. You will find that the atmosphere will steady every few moments so take lots of pics and hope for the best.
