this problem is similar to what to use under an old German Equatorial mount typical of old school f/6-7 8"-10" newtonians, which needed a rock solid base 20-30" high.
While I had a steel tripod that took half an hour to assemble what with a dozen nuts & bolts etc it was never particularly solid.
The best solution was a fixed wooden pyramid I made from hardwood floorboards glued and screwed. This was also perfect as a low table for tabletop scopes such as the Questar 3.5". When I made this I had carefully measured my cars boot to make sure it would fit as one piece without any need to fold it.
