I had a go at reprocessing a previous M83 image I put up in this thread
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ferrerid=17584
which I'm not now happy with as I think maybe it looked a bit overprocessed. The new result is below. Now including 12 frames - so about 4 hours of data with a QHY8 on an RC8 and EQ6. Any better? Worse? Gee, so hard to tell after staring at the screen for so long!!
I have a query though. This time I stacked in PixInsight using the batch preprocessing script. The results (using all 12 frames compared to using the 9 best of 12 in Deep Sky Stacker which I did in the other thread) are shown in the attached crops of the galaxy (with some simple histogram and other manipulations, but nothing substantially different between the two). What I was surprised by is how much clearer the PixInsight version is. Does that script do some sort of deconvolution?
The issue though is the fact that it left all the hot pixels in. Haven't managed to persuade it yet to get rid of these, even with the Cosmetic Correction tool and the dark master generated in the above. Any tips? As it was, removed most of them manually in Photoshop in the full non-cropped and processed image
