Star cluster M41

Star cluster M41 in Canis Major, displaying several old red stars amongst the younger blue and white ones. Taken with the day-past-full Moon high in the sky, and with bright urban lighting, star clusters can still show wonderful colours.

This shot is made from 120x 30 second exposures with a Nikon D5100 at ISO 800, an IDAS light pollution filter, directly through a 150mm diameter F/5 Newtonian and a GSO coma corrector.

As can be seen in the bottom right, the stars look a bit streaky due to the setup being somewhat out of collimation.
