If you have another 9v battery on hand you can test it outside now. You don't need to go back to the PC. Go outside, take a reading from a specific location aimed at a specific part of the sky. Change the battery and repeat the reading under identical conditions to the first reading. I will bet the 2nd reading will be lower than the first.
