Forgot to mention that I was using a remote shutter cable. Thanks for the tip, I will try the shorter exposure time and see how it goes. I was trying to get the longest exposure that would give a valid histogram but i hadn't tried increasing the ISO.
Not sure how I will handle dimmer targets. Once I am happy I can consistently take reasonable moon shots I want to try jupiter or saturn when convenient. (Would have liked to have the 30 mm projection EP instead of the 40 mm but there was none in stock at the time). Ultimately I'd like to see if I can get a picture of orion nebula but I think I may have better luck sans scope with a zoom lens on the camera and a sturdy tripod mount.
I don't intend on going deciding on any future scope / mount upgrades until I feel I have exhausted the capability of my current 6" dob.
