"45 front / 50 rear on my mtb." Matt i dont know how you MT with those pressures..pinch flats can be common but it depends on your body weight & how you ride.
i am running tubeless now & the question of pressure is basically how long can you run without punctures..on my front it sits just above 20psi -i need a bit more -close to 30 in the back--maxxis is popular as is schwalbe

on my rd bike i run about 90psi usually-i like to run tubulars on my roadie.. a lot of people run Conti somethings & are ahppy with them for general use

Hans if i were you i would buy a 1L bottle of stans sealant [no mater hat your tyres] get a valve stem remover & squirt some sealant into your tubes rd -20ml & MTB 50-60ml...we were MTBing at balckwood last saturday -my mate behind me had sealant pissing on his leg from a hole -by the time he pulled up , got off & checked it the sealant had sealed it up -we continued riding no problems

of the 10000km's i did this year i think i got 2 punc -one on my road training bike [it was wellworn] & 1 tubular puncture
