I had a look at my home and contents insurance policy last week. I've included my telescopes and equipment (value about $20 thousand) as special items in my contents. My insurer told me this only includes cover for these items while they are at my home. When I asked for a quote to cover them for times when I travel and take them away from my home my monthly premium payment increased by $55 PER MONTH. My insurer is Allianz.

Since I don't know which telescope, mounts, camera equipment etc I might want to travel with at any time I have to cover them all just in case.

Does anyone know if there are insurers who give special rates for astronomical equipment, or alternatively, know of home and contents insurers who don't charge astronomical (pun intended) prices to cover our hobby???
