Well, my mind has just gone to mush so I'll have to comment more later when I can think again.
There are non-NSAID migraine medications like sumatriptan, lamotrigine which are taken as soon as you get the first inkling of a migraine coming on (which sounds very much like what you describe). I think the suggestion of seeing a Neurologist, but one that specialises in Headaches, is the way to go.
