Got it all sorted just fine and very easy to do. Really glad I bought the crimping tool. From Jaycar I bought two 1 metre cables with RJ45 6 pin connections from the motors to driver.
The motors chugged along, which I thought at first meant they worked.
Then I replaced the RJ45 on the hand control no problems. On my pratice piece of cable I did RJ45 connections on both ends....just as well as it turns out.
The shop bought connections didn't allow any speed variation to the motors...strange, so in a moment of inspiration I tried my pratice cable and it worked, slewing speed changes, reverse's etc all worked. A close inspection of both shop bought cables showed both cables had been reversed on opposite ends

if you see what I mean. Had enough RJ45 ends to start again, cut off both connectors and atttached new ones...now it all works

Amazing that there is so little QC, or are telescope controls different from normal

Now I'm waiting on a couple of collars to fit the motors to the RA and Dec shafts.
