It's strange that my father-in-law, who I've seen handle and catch a brown snake and stick his hand in the mangroves to catch muddies, won't touch them.

Not very scientific I know, and I'm not saying it's true, but I try my best to keep out of their way. But I'm like that with all creepy crawlies here. In England the House Spider also grows enormous, it tends to have a bigger body than the Huntsman but shorter, stumper legs. I used to pick them up in the house and throw them in the garden. You could feel their bites, like soft pricks with a needle, but they never broke the skin.
