Damn, how does one really pick a "best work" for The Beatles? On virtually every album there were absolute "masterpieces", although they didn't necessarily make it as hits. Then there were the songs that were only ever (initially) released as singles that were outstanding.
I remember when I was learning guitar between '62 and '64ish, my teacher (a respected jazz musician) told me to buy the sheet music to A Hard days Night as he regarded the songwriting ability as exceptional.
