Geoff, I think you are talking about that un-Australian thing they play up in Sydney, not proper football.

I never brought our 3 sons up to be interested, never took them to a game etc, never allowed them to play thugby, but soon there they were, all glued to the TV when Origin of the Species games were on. They won't allow me to razz them about it, I am told to "P*** off Dad, I can't hear!"

I was interested for instance in that media article about some rugger buggers suffering lifelong pain and disability after retirement. One bloke I see played on 4 seasons after being warned off by his doctor due to neck injuries. Why? Is it just the money, or more? Was he concussed, or taking a deliberate gamble?

I wonder whether future compensation claims against thugby clubs, from players who become paralyzed from the neck up - AHHH NO I mean from the neck down, really - might bring an upheaval in how they approach on-field tactics and rules.

I see in the USA there are claims being filed from well-known players now suffering dementia (I won't argue they always did ). Will we see our NRL players wearing helmets and sumo suits as they roll around the field? One agency capable of enforcing such extremes is the insurance sector.

What do you think? Bring back the biff?

Cheers
