Robert, the driver for the ix4000, was updated only a couple of weeks ago, have to admit i did have trouble at first because the printer didn't like Windows 8.1, however Canon sent me the link for the correct driver for this machine and it did work.
The other 990 uses a different drive and has been working for years very satisfactorily i might add.

Julian you maybe right, it dose seem like something is missing regarding the ink mixture, so i suppose it cant hurt doing another couple of deep clean runs.
