It's working. Too easy Andrew.

I 'cleaned' the pick-up rollers with clean water and now it feeds paper. I hadn't considered dirt to be the problem because it was working before not being used for a year or more and when I tried to use it again it wouldn't pick up the paper. No dirt came off onto the cloth, so I don't think it was actually dirty. I think I just moistened and softened the foam rubber coating the rollers. Whatever - I'm hoping for a few more years use (we only do a few pages a week now anyway).
Brian and Lewis, this is an all-in-one and I did try to buy quality. The now-dead one must be 5 years old and at times has been used pretty hard at times. The equivalent replacement costs about 3x the cost of a set of cartridges.
Humayun, I'm a peaceful man and tend to vent frustrations on the weeds in my vegie garden. And I certainly treat my vinyl very well. [In fact I just finished listening to Todd Rungren's Utopia 'Another Live' on vinyl; it must be 35 years old and there is scarcely a crack or pop.] BTW how do you find these things?
