High altitude winds

You probably all know this cool website at: http://earth.nullschool.net/
It shows an interactive view of the earth currents and winds.
I was checking Jetstream this morning and higher altitude winds and saw this interesting pattern which I don't recall seeing before. Usually the higher you go the quieter and more uniform the winds are.

The NE is relatively calm while there is a big torus of extremely high velocity wind over the Antartic circling clockwise when everything else is going anti-clockwise. I wonder what this is caused by. Change of season?
