The 1.25" refers to the external diameter of the barrel, it's a standard size so that all Eyepieces will fit all focissers. The focal length of the Eyepiece, 10mm or 25 mm etc is the crunchy bit that is causing your issue. Suppliers will list Projection EPs that are configured specifically for this purpose and they are normally in the larger sizes. If you want to go further into Astrophotography you have to look at CCD and DSLR type cameras that will work without theEP.
And that is a deep dark slippery expensive and frustrating hole as many who have gone before will testify
