My C8 came with it's own trunk for storing it in and transporting.
I though it was too big and overkill and instead used a gym bag lined along its sides with foam I bought at Clark rubber. One big piece of foam goes from one side to the other side (i.e. also forming the base) and two pieces are at each end.
I've had no issues, but concede that the bag and telescope wouldn't survive a minor accident if some one runs into my boot.
