Alex, I build my own machines for gaming/simulations and I recently put one together for movies and media that will outstrip any other I have done. I found that AMD 64bit is way cheaper than Intel, both for boards and processors so used an ASRock motherboard with on board video which is plenty fast enough even compared to my previous dual video card machines using SLI, like the advice above I put in a SSD for the OS and 9TB of HDD storage, 8GB of matched gaming ram with ally cooling panels and a 650W power supply. Since modern boards have HDMI out for video and audio I like to use a LCD tv with fast response. 32" is a good gaming size for my flying and motor racing sims and by saving on not getting a separate video card you can get a decent tv as they are so cheap now. I bought everything on eBay but if you have someone you trust go with that.
