my daughter has been playing computer games for many years now, apart from being a bit lazy now its not done her any harm (she is now 24).
computer wise, I would avoid laptops, get a decent desktop with a 24" flat screen monitor. a desktop can have the memory upgraded, the graphics card updated and even the motherboard can be upgraded. If you upgrade the desktop, then you can still use the monitor so a saving can be made on upgrading. a good amount of memory and a good graphics card are essential, as is a good connection with the internet.
hope that helps.
