Brett its a single speed rack and pinion, however it should accept any of the aftermarket focusers suitable for a Synta style scope. It has the three holes at 120 degrees. I have not removed the focuser but did look into putting on a GSO focuser. The stock focuser certainly handled my Canon DSLR wuthout drama and visually I have been using a heavy 2" GSO diaelectic diagonal and 2" EPs.
