Using various methods of testing, scientist believe that Saturn is composed of 96% hydrogen,3% helium, and 1% various trace elements that include methane, ammonia, ethane and hydrogen deuteride. So the necessary gases ( hydrogen and helium) are present, perhaps these came from the accretion disc as Saturn formed. So maybe failed stars are gas giant planets, or Saturn was ejected by its larger cousin(Sol) to live out its failure in the outer solar system?
