Thanks Mark. The UV/IR filter is needed as the Nikon contains no filter at all. It's not astro modified, it's full spectrum modified. Without it, the stars would bloat and the field would look hazy.
Actually I forgot to reset the ISO after using the Bahtinov mask for focusing otherwise I would probably have used a lower ISO.
If you have 48mm (2") LRGB filters you could try them with the 1000D. LRGB with a colour camera is not the most efficient way to shoot pics, though it can be done. Same for the visual OIII. Depending on make, some visual OIII filters let through Ha as well. That would give a kind of Bi-Colour image. Speed would suffer. OIII are usually very narrow and you would be looking at very long exposure times, giving rise to camera noise etc.
