I'm no fan of Putin or his government but when we push them in a corner and threaten to encircle them with Nato forces on there boarders. Construct so called missile shields in Europe to undermine there only remaining deterrent which is there nuclear forces. All in violations of the Nuclear disarmament treaty's the west has signed. We can only push Russia closer to a first strike policy.

Very good points indeed. Even during the cold war, I saw Russians as "just like us". They want territorial security and I cant blame them for that. Their "neighbours" have invaded and slaughtered Russians by the million for centuries; that's why they set up the Eastern European block post WW11 in the first place. You also have to remember, when Russia pulled out of those states, NATO charged straight in.... peaceful invasion!
I also know a Russian quite well and when I asked her about Putin she made a very apt point. You need a strong man to govern 10 time zones... The West is no better than Russia on any level and I don't blame them for facing down Europe and the Yanks one little bit.
