Dana,
I find that sheep make excellent observing companions; they just get on with nibbling all night, and they don't hold my many scientific hobbies in contempt, as do most human beings.
"No lights, no human company, complete solitude for prolonged periods."
You just described paradise.....
If you gave me a choice between this paradise and the Muslim's paradise complete with 50 virgins and such, I would choose your lifestyle instead
Me, personally, I wish I could step off the treadmill of over-business, get away from living in a big city, and get rid of all those social distractions that stop me from having the time and energy to devote myself 100 percent to my studies in astronomy and in other sciences.
Robert
Complete solitude may not always be the most pleasant thing for a human being, but it focusses the mind and gives one an intellectual edge, as is so very evident from your recent rapid progress in star cluster studies.
