You can pick up very good achro doublet objectives made with R30+ glass which reduces CA significantly from iStar. They supply to ATM market and prices are in your budget. However I think the 127mm might be the smallest they make in their antiagstmatic range. I have the 127 R30 which I am using for my build. With those objectives if you go for a long focal length like a 127mm f12 the CA will not be a problem and can be used for imaging.
Of course the APO ED nazis will disagree.
